Tis’ the season to bust out the spare coats and cots! Or if you’re like me, you may want a few tips to prep your guest room to give your visitors a luxury retreat to relax and stay in style. You don’t have to send your guests off to the Beverly Hills Hotel to create a wow-worthy vacation retreat right in the comfort of your own home. Read on for how to organize and style your guest bedroom for holiday hosting. Here are my top tips for holiday hosting in style:

How to organize and style your guest bedroom

New linens from serena and lily make all the difference in this guest room.

Refresh your linens

Fresh sheets, pillows, and towels are THE best way to revamp a dreary guest room. There’s nothing worse than those musty sheets and you all know what I’m talking about. Therefore, take time to give your sheets a wash or replace an old set with something new and noteworthy. My new white linen sheets and plush oversized towels from Serena & Lily are perfection and an easy win for this space refresh. Streamline your beauty products to update your guest bathroom.

Streamline your toiletries

We’ve already stopped taking all the free samples from hotels right? So let’s keep it simple and streamlined by choosing one nice brand to treat your guests to a luxurious home away from home experience. Choose a hand soap, hand lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash in your favorite brand.

Add a hamper with handles

Guests need laundry too. Remember that last time you traveled and you had no place to put your unmentionables? Give your guests an easy to tote hamper to make it easy for them to do some laundry and strip the bed before they go. Pictured: La Jolla Basket, Natural, Small

Toss on a lux linen throw to update your guest bedding. throw / lumbar pillow cover / pillow 1 / pillow 2

Throw on a throw

Ever stayed at a friend’s house and curled up on the couch with a cozy throw and cup of coffee? It’s basically heaven especially with a good book on a chilly fall or winter day. A throw is a simple addition to add some form and function to your guest room. Pictured: Topanga Linen Throw, Ivory

Plants and succulents add an instant update to a guest bathroom.

Plants make it peaceful

I can’t say enough how much I love the plants (and succulents) in my guest room and guest bath. In fact, I also use this bathroom myself, so I can tell you for sure, these are my friends. Plants are a simple and inexpensive way to spruce up and style your space while adding some life and luxury to your guest room.

Clean out your tub

There’s nothing worse than a gross, dirty tub when you are visiting friends and family. On the other hand, there’s nothing better than a clean and cared for tub that calls you to rest and reset. You don’t need a fancy jacuzzi or even a newly renovated oasis to make your guest feel spa-inspired (hello, look at my linoleum floors and yellow marble sink). BONUS: Replace your dirty bath mat with something fresh for a total tub transformation. Pictured: Healdsburg Bath Rug, Ivory, 21″ x 34″

Power up the bedside

Add a lamp and charging station to the nightstand of your guest room so visitors can read, write or get inspired day and night. BONUS: Find a power charger lamp like the one pictured that can charge your cell phone and provide the light in one.

Provide provisions

Think about what you’d need if you were staying with a friend or traveling to a hotel. Add some snacks, a water carafe or water bottle (skip the plastic), a stash of tp and tampons, extra towels and whatever else you think your guests will need. Leave your guests with a few bedside reads like books and magazines.

Revel in the reading

Your guests don’t need to read your entire Kurt Vonnegut library. On the other hand, they may appreciate a special selection curated by you. Moreover, books can help to get them into the spirit of the slow down season. Most importantly, I like to set limits to keep things tidy. I use a magazine file or a hanging cubby to display a curated collection of reading materials for my guests. Throw in a few local city guides or a “best of” manual to customize their stay.

A robe and slippers transform your guest room into a spa-like oasis.

Bring out the robe and slippers

Tie up your space by leaving your guests with a clean robe and slippers for that out-of-the spa experience. It’s the simple things that make a big impression. It doesn’t take a lot to make your guests feel special. This Porto Linen Robe and St. Helena Spa slippers are light, luxurious and the perfect guest room staples!
