Science tells us that if you’re reading this, there’s a 99% chance that you love shoes. Ok, maybe I made that part up, but if you even remotely like shoes, and enjoy looking at organized spaces, you’ve come to the right place. I rounded up over 40 creative ways to organize your shoes.
To put it simply, there are a zillion pictures of organized shoe collections online!! I have spent hours and hours scouring the internet for the most practical yet pretty examples of shoe storage. As a professional organizer, I know that sometimes the best way to feel motivated to upgrade and organize your own space is a bit of visual inspiration.
Let me know how YOU store and organize your shoes, and which of the following ideas is your favorite! Enjoy 40 Creative Ways to Organize your Shoes:
Shoe Shelf Storage
This sneaker lover installed shallow vertical shelves in a hallway to take advantage of an unused wall. This storage solution makes fantastic use of vertical space, takes up minimal room in the walkway since the shelves are sleek and shallow, and creates an accessible shoe landing spot to pull from. Here, Michelle Smith turns a small closet off her living room into a stunning shoe closet by installing shelves and painting them a standout color. If you have an underused closet in your home and an overstuffed wardrobe closet, consider this overflow storage solution. Image via OneKingsLane
This built-in closet looks stunning. And extra props to Jane of FitFabFunMom for double stacking her shoes from front to back to make the most of the space.
If shelving space is a wee-bit tight, consider adjusting each pair to face the opposite direction as Stephanie did here. This allows each shelf to fit an extra pair or two, which is never a bad thing for us shoe lovers! Image via GlitterGuide
In this closet, professional organizer Beth Ziegler of Bneato Bar uses a bit of shelving above and below to maximize shoe storage. The floor storage for often-worn pairs and the overhead storage for special occasion shoes is certainly the way to go! Image via Design Love Fest.
This DIY shoe storage is a fantastic reminder that a few small shelves can boost any storage space in a pinch. I also love that the crates on the floor add a sweet touch of personality. If I were to upgrade this option, I would install deeper shelves so that shoes could face forward rather than sideways. This would maximize the storage and allow for those shoes to come off of the floor. Image via A Beautiful Mess
Cubby Shoe Storage
This simple white cubby bench is a great solution for an entryway if you’re a sneaker and flats kind of gal. It’s also the perfect size to wrangle the kiddos’ sneakers and sandals. If you love the cubbies idea for your entire shoe collection, I recommend getting a larger unit so that heals and booties can have some breathing room. Image via Remodelaholic
This large built-in cubby unit is perfect for displaying heals. I like that each pair has room to be turned sideways so that “shoe” stopper embellishments can be visible. You can tell that Amber of Shoeper Woman cherishes her shoes, by her site name AND her beautiful display!
This funky piece is made of stackable modules by Danish Design Store. The asymmetrical design of these cubbies is right up my alley.
These boxes allow you to stack shoes on top of each other AND see the shoe inside. I love these bins from The Container Store.
Uniform bins and containers immediately make a space look neat and tidy. Here, HGTV shows us that big bins with picture labels are a stunning way to store shoes.
These DIY shoe boxes are nailing a few of our favorite shoe organizing elements. Firstly, the bins are clean and simple, which means that the actual display will look killer once these are stacked on a floor to ceiling shelf. Also, the polaroid pictures allow each shoe to be easily identified. Image via Create Comforts Blog
These are the most beautiful, luxurious shoe boxes I’ve ever laid my eyes on. via Sagitine
There are two shoe storage solutions going on here, but we’re zeroing in on those beautiful clear boot bins and smaller shoe drawers from the container store, and those brilliant polaroid printouts delivered by Social Print Studios. Once again, Beth of BneatoBar is killing the closet organizing game!! Image via Style by Emily Henderson
Cabinets & Armoires Shoe Storage
This photograph inspired this post. I’ve been loving this vintage, decorative cabinet and shoe display for years! Brooke Cundiff, you rock. That’s all. Image via The Selby
A bookcase with glass doors immediately classes up the look. I’m loving that Lauren of Wellesley & King added this bookshelf to her bedroom to boost her storage space while adding a stylish display. If you want to create the same set-up, snag this shelf at Ikea.
A pretty shoe collection behind glass looks mighty classy. I especially like that standalone pair underneath a glass bell to the left. Image via Pinterest original
Using strips of crown molding to hang heals is the most innovative idea I’ve seen yet. One thought: I would use this solution for lesser worn pairs of shoes since my shoe soles get grimy, and I wouldn’t want a dirty wall to look at! Image via Lowes
Hanging a row of bath towel rods can have the same effect as crown molding. Who knew! This closet is everything we love – minimal, black and white, tidy, and unique. Nina created this wall rack for her heels by painting some inexpensive kitchen towel rods with gold spray paint for a chic look. Check out more of Nina’s ideas and designs on Stylizimo.
When working with a super small space, using the walls for storage is key. This product is an unusual find, so naturally, I had to share! via Smow
By adding a row of hooks to a closet wall or entryway, you can create some vertical shoe storage inexpensively! Grab these hooks over at IKEA.
Who knew that an inexpensive metal garden grid could be brought inside for a creative shoe rack! I’ve never seen this anywhere else, but I’m impressed that numerous shoes can be fit on here and it’s a rather attractive conversation piece. Image via Burkatron
These magazine racks are a clever way to maximize vertical storage on a narrow wall in your closet or elsewhere. Image via Stonahem
Nook & Cranny Shoe Storage
This Island organizer is another option for overflow shoe storage. This low table looks like it’s for kiddos’ playtime, so why not get some grownup shoe storage out of the deal too! Image via Stonahem
Built-in closet solutions are simply the best. These roll-out shelves by IKEA are stylish, functional, and space-efficient.
These plastic drawers are an inexpensive quick fix for adding drawer storage to any closet floor. By racing sandals in towards each other, you can stack 6-7 in one drawer! via Ebay
Under the Bed Shoe Storage
I typically don’t love under bed storage for shoes because those shoes are often forgotten and under-appreciated, but this solution is a standout option! A rolling tray allows shoes to be easily seen and accessed, unlike other plastic shoe organizers. Love it! Image via Shelterless
This DIY bed platform provides all sorts of cool extra shoe and book storage! And let’s not ignore that ladder over to the left. It’s a two in one inspiration photo! Image via Icon Home Design
DIY Shoe Storage
This DIY Shoe Rack made out of pipes is a funky entryway storage solution for the entire family’s currently worn shoes. Plus, I can’t resist anything with a bit of copper. Image via Home Depot
Come winter, boots dry out much quicker if hung upside down. This DIY boot rack is perfect for just that. Image via Apartment Therapy
This DIY latter shelf is a stylish storage solution that can transform any shoe collection into a dazzling display. I love the color-coded shoe set-up and the fact that Geneva has enough leopard for an entire shelf! That’s a girl after my own heart. Image via A Pair and A Spare DIY.
Behind the Door Shoe Storage
These behind the door shoe storage pockets are not the prettiest of solutions, but they are super functional. Hang this on the back of a closet door, and immediately boost your storage capacity! Grab your own over the door storage here.
Shoe Display Storage
Whether it’s your wedding day pumps that you want to cherish forever, or a really killer pair of designer shoes that you want to preserve while appreciating, this idea for displaying your favorite pair is all sorts of cinderella. Image via Lonny
This beautiful shoe display is breaking my heart with all these amazing pieces. Bravo! via Style MBA
I spy four little special shoes in this bookshelf, and I like them. Most shoe collections have a standout pair or two. Why not display them with your books and decor for an extra punch of femininity. Image via Refinery 29
Special shoes deserve a special spot. I like the idea of displaying super beautiful pieces like artwork on a bookshelf or side table. Even if you’re not wearing them constantly, you can still appreciate them for their beauty! Image via The Glitter Guide
